In order to support the work being covered in Staffordshire and other counties to raise awareness around child sexual exploitation issues, all students will have a presentation talk on Monday 12th December, delivered by specialist designated officers from Staffordshire Police.
The presentation features a short film called ‘Kayleigh’s love story’ which is based around the true story of Kayleigh Haywood. Kayleigh’s Love Story is as a warning to young people, both girls and boys, about the dangers of speaking to people they don’t know online. The film highlights just how quick and easy it can be for children to be groomed online without them or those around them knowing it is happening. It will last approximately 1 hour with opportunity for discussion afterwards should a child require it. Pastoral staff and all teachers will have received training beforehand in order to support students afterwards if needed.
The presentation has proven highly effective in raising awareness of:-
- Safe Internet Use
- Risky Behaviour
- The Grooming Process
- Child Sexual Exploitation
- Where young people can go for help and advice
There is an opportunity for parents to meet with a specialist designated officer and also view the DVD material used during the presentations to pupils. This will take place on Tuesday 6th December at 3.40pm in the school theatre.
If your child raises any concerns at home, or you are concerned about a young person, please either contact the police on 101 (if you feel immediate advise is needed) or go to the following website where you will find details of other organisations who can help. www.knowaboutcse.co.uk/parents
The presentation will have the full support of The Friary School and we will make sure that the appropriate care is in place should any of the young people wish to discuss the issues afterwards.
Should you have any questions or concerns about the production please contact school and we will be happy to set your mind at rest.
