On Wednesday 21st November The Friary girl’s U13
football team played Sundorne in the quarterfinals of the Minute Maid Cup.
The girls got off to a great start with Alex Liddiard
scoring to make the score 1-0 to Friary. This was then followed with goals from
Katie Wilkinson and Beth Merrick.
The opposition managed to score a goal at the other end and
at half time the score was 3-1 to Friary.
After half time the girls came out ready and raring to go
with a few goals up their sleeves. The goals in the second half came from Beth
Merrick 1, Katie Wilkinson 2 and Josie Balla 1.
The midfield worked hard putting their crosses in and
tackling back. Whilst the midfielders were doing their jobs the defenders
worked extremely hard and were solid at the back. Sarah Nicholas had a really
good game in goal, pulling off some great saves and only conceded one goal
throughout the whole match.
The squad consisted of: - Tammy O’Sullivan, Josie Balla,
Catherine Knight, Alex Liddiard, Beth Merrick, Sarah Nicholas, Alana Edwards,
Jordan Hill, McKenize Fedrick, Abbie Hulme, Katie Burke and Katie Wilkinson
(captain).
Beth Merrick was named player of the match.
Overall the team played an outstanding match and are now
through to the semi final of the Minute Maid Cup.
