During this course you will have the opportunity to:

  • Study both the practical and theoretical aspects of Physical Education
  • Develop an understanding of effective and safe physical performance
  • Plan, perform, analyse and evaluate physical activities
  • Improve knowledge and skills in a range of relevant activities

During the course you will study the following topics:

  • Factors affecting performance; skill, motivation, fitness, mental preparation, physique and drugs
  • Reasons and opportunities for participation in physical activity including Leisure and Recreation, Facilities, Participation and Excellence, Amateur/Professional, The Media and Women in Sport
  • Health, safety and training including health, diet, safe practice, injury, exercise and training methods

During the course you will be expected to complete the following assignments / pieces of coursework:

  • Practical assessment of each sport studied
  • Written analysis in one of the sports studies (10% of final mark)
  • Understanding of laws and tactical awareness

which will all contribute to your final examination grade.
In addition you will be expected to complete homework relevant to your course of study on a weekly basis. Your homework will help you to build up knowledge and techniques essential for yor successful examination performance.

During the course you will be taught in:

  • a mixed ability teaching group and in some cases a mixed sex teaching group
