The U13 Girls' Football team played their quarter final round of the Minute Maid Cup Competition against Rugby High School for Girls on Tuesday 26th February 2008 at the Friary School.
The weather to say the least was a great improvement on the last match we played against Sandwell Academy. This match saw the team battling with gusty conditions which proved to be difficult at times.
The team knew that this game would be more challenging as Rugby had scored highly against previous opponents. The girls started well with Beth Merrick scoring an excellent first goal. Beth then went on to score again, with Catherine Knight scoring the third. Rugby School came back at us scoring a goal before half time.
The half time score was 3-1. The team really wanted to score more in the first half because they knew they would have the wind against them in the second half.
The second half saw Rugby School come out with renewed determination and Friary found they had to pick up their game and tighten up their defence. Play proved very tight for the first ten minutes until Alex Liddiard put in a great cross for Catherine to knock in to the goal. Not long after Beth scored another excellent goal from long distance; this goal decided the game with the score now 5-1 at full time.
After achieving a hat trick Beth Merrick was awarded player of the match.
The team now await their semi final match which will be played at the Friary before Easter.
Well done girls.
