Lichfield Boys U14 Trophy Winners PDF Print

The Friary Under 14 Boys Hockey squad were victorious in the inaugural  Lichfield Boys Trophy at Under 14 level.

Friary beat King Edwards 4-0 with goals from Peter Newton, Toby Lomas, Robbie Gleeson and Sid Carpenter. Netherstowe then beat King Edwards 3-1.

In what turned out to be the final, Friary beat Netherstowe 5-2 in a good match played in excellent spirit. Friary were 4-0 up at half time with a Robbie Gleeson hat trick and a good finish from Toby Lomas. Two excellent saves by Ed Lambert kept Friary comfortably in front.

Netherstowe pulled a goal back early in the second half, but Friary replied through Sean Wood. Netherstowe never gave up and in a really open last ten minutes they scored again at the end of the game.

A new venture this year ending in success. Hopefully, next year we will be able to run an U16 and an U14 team. The close links established with Lichfield Hockey Club, thanks to the efforts of Dave Willenbruch, have resulted in many pupils playing competitive boys hockey reguarly for the first time in the schools' history.
