Minutes of the PTA Meeting
Thursday 14th January 2010

Present: Philip Burke, Isobel Liddiard, Carole Marks-Barber, Sue Rogers, Sarah Foley, Sian Grayer, Jackie Reed.

Apologies: Cath Packer, Caroline Fellows, Barry Crossley, Marjan Scheven, Ian Rose.

Minutes: These were agreed.

Matters Arising: The fiasco regarding the Christmas Raffle was explained. The printing costs had to be covered despite us being unable to sell any tickets.
Ian’s role on the PTA has changed and he will not be attending as many meetings in future but will remain as our contact in school. Many of us were uncertain how successful our future meetings will be without staff presence!

Art Department Presentation: Sue Crudgington told us about the new 14-19 Diploma (Creative and Media Diploma) which will jointly be available through the Friary School, Chase Terrace and Lichfield College, starting in September.  This involves Music, Visual Arts, Photography etc. She asked if we could provide funding for six MacBooks and two new laser printers. As other departments will be making requests at forthcoming meetings, we agreed to contribute £2000 towards the cost of these items.

Ethiopia Presentation: Kat Roberts was joined by a student from Netherstowe and her Youth Leader for her presentation on the Youth Group’s experiences in Ethiopia working with children on healthcare and educational projects.

Quiz Night: Jackie suggested the possibility of having a fish and chip supper and Carole agreed to check the prices and delivery details. Phil believed that we had sufficient stock for the bar and reported that Keith had prepared the quiz. As numbers would not be known until nearer to the event, final arrangements would be made via e-mail.

Show Bars Update:   Sue, Sarah and Sian raised their concerns over the use of paid sixth formers to wash up after the bars, which had been tried for two nights in November. They felt strongly that it was a waste of £20 that they had worked hard to raise! As others agreed, this idea has now been abandoned.
There were also concerns over the prices of soft drinks. These were believed to be half the price that is charged in school during the school day. It was therefore agreed that they would be increased.
Sarah, Sue and Sian were running the bar on 15th January with Phil.

Round Table Tableau Update: Phil had received a cheque for £350 for our night out with the Tableau.

People to People: There was nothing new to report.

Next Meeting: Thursday 25th February at 7.30pm.   Meeting Closed: at 9.55pm.
