U13 Girls' Minute Maid Cup Football Results PDF Print

Monday 17th March 2008 saw the U13 girls' football team play their semi final match in the Minute Maid Cup against Thomas Telford School.

Having played and beaten Thomas Telford in a previous match we knew they were going to be out for revenge and tough to beat. They certainly were a team on a mission and came out all guns blazing.

In the first half you could feel the tension in the players from both sides. It is fair to say that Thomas Telford started well and dominated the start of the match with more possession and territory. The Friary knew they had to pick up their game and produced some better attacking play, resulting in some good shots on goal. Katie Wilkinson produced the only goal of the first half taking Friary into a 1-0 lead at half time.

Thomas Telford came on in the second half determined to score. Both teams had scoring opportunities, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Eventually, Thomas Telford scored taking the score line to 1-1. The score remained the same at full time and so the game had to go into extra time.

Friary decided to really go for it and made numerous attacking runs which unfortunately didn't result in a goal. Thomas Telford threw all their players into defence in the final few minutes, but with seconds to go Alex Liddiard put a shot in towards goal, the goal keeper was unable to save it, putting Friary 2-1 in the lead. The final whistle blew resulting in a 2-1 win to the Friary.

The team now meet Leysland High School from Leicestershire in the final on Wednesday 30th April 2008 which will be held at Meadow Lane.
