The Friary School is celebrating its best ever GCSE performance as over 70% of the year group gained 5 or more Grades A*-C for the first time, with 56% of these including a Grade C or above in both English and Mathematics. Students also recorded an average points score in excess of 400.
The full set of 10 A*/A Grades was achieved by Eleanor Crossley and Cathy Hawley (both of whom recorded 9 A* and 1 A Grade), Emily Deans, Rachel Genders-Boyd, Harry Moss, Helena Redman, Kathryn Roberts and Lucy Wilding.
Nicki Roskell (with 7 A*’s), Emma Briant, Daniel-Sean Huisman, Charlotte and Hannah McEvoy, Alexander Philpotts, Helen Turnbull and Kate Waldron all recorded 9 top grades – and Amy Burton, Laura Richards and Charlie Watson managed to gain 8 A*’s or A’s.
A further 18 students all scored at least 5 A*/A’s and a number of the year group can add to their high performance list the Distinctions they gained in GNVQ Performing Arts while they were in Year 10.
Headteacher John Brough congratulated the students on their excellent results which contributed to the school exceeding the challenging targets it had set for this year group. He added:
“It is great news for the students and for the staff too to see the rewards for all the hard work that has been put in to achieve these results. This is our fifth consecutive year of further improvement in GCSE results and although there is far more to education than just exam statistics it is always reassuring to see such a positive outcome for the pupils and for the school”.
