(19 June 2009) The Friary School today welcomed a visit by His Royal
Highness the Prince of Wales, who was on his way to a service at
Lichfield Cathedral and used the school's field as a helicopter landing
pad.
Prince Charles was greeted at the aircraft by headteacher John
Brough who said afterwards that the Prince wished the school all the
best with the forthcoming examination results.
Hundreds of pupils lined the playground to wave to the Prince and
were overjoyed when he walked over to chat to a few lucky students.
This is not the first time the Friary has been used as Lichfield's
unofficial heliport, Princess Anne, the Duke of Gloucester and even Her
Majesty the Queen has landed on our turf.
