Katie Wilkinson Gets England Call Up PDF Print

In August 2009 Katie Wilkinson was selected for Englands' U15 Women's Football Squad. The team travelled to Ingelheim to play Germany at the Stadion im Blumengarten.

This was the second game against Germany and England needed to put a few things right after losing that match 7-0. Germany however started the game quickly putting England under pressure and at half time Germany led 3-0.

England put up a good fight in the second half but Germany's strength remained and went 5-0 into the lead. Eventually England's persistence paid off and when the German goalkeeper was caught out of her area Katie found the back of the net. Although England lost the game 5-1 Katie proved herself and scored the only goal of the match for England.

Following on from this success Katie was now selected for UEFA Women's U17's European Championship Squadkatie.wilkinson_img_0539_medium.jpg. She was a member of a squad of 18 players who competed against Belarus, Macedonia and Wales in Macedonia in October 2009.

Their first match on 12th October resulted in a 7-0 win against Belarus in which Katie scored a goal.

Their second match on 14th October against Macedonia also ended in a 7-0 win and again Katie scored a goal.

Katie's last game of the qualifiers came on Saturday 17th October where they beat Wales 3-0. Although the margin of victory was not quite as big, it was nevertheless impressive.

In total, England scored 17 goals in three matches without reply, with Katie scoring 2 of the goals. Well done Katie.

England now progress to the second round which takes place in December.
