The U15 Girls ESFA Schools' Cup Competition is now well under way and had 513 teams enter the competition this year.
The Friary were lucky enough to get a bye in the first round and in the second round Kingsley College in Redditch pulled out of the competition.
Our first opponents came in the third round and turned out to be our old rivals, Thomas Telford School, which we somehow managed to meet three times in the U13 competition two years ago. We knew that the match against them would prove challenging but we had managed to beat them twice out of our three previous meetings.
The match started off quite tensely, but by half time Josie Balla had put the Friary into a 1-0 lead. After the team talk at half time the Friary seemed to have found their confidence and within minutes of starting the second half Katie Wilkinson scored her first goal. Friary's confidence grew and grew after this and Thomas Telford had no response. Alex Liddiard managed to pop in another goal taking the score to 3-0. The match continued in this vain with Katie Wilkinson scoring another two goals to seal the match with a 5-0 win.
Their fourth round match was against local school, Chasetown Sports College. This match proved to be the most challenging so far with Chasetown taking the lead very early on at the start of the match. However, Friary fought back scoring two goals before half time. The second half was closely contested with neither team finding the back of the net. The final score of 2-1 to the Friary sees the girls safely into the last sixty four teams.
Round five is scheduled to be played before Christmas and we wait to see who our next opposition will be.
