Mathematics
In Y7 pupils are initially taught in mixed ability groups but after the October half term they are vertically streamed into four groups in each of two parallel bands. In Y7 – Y11 pupils are vertically streamed into five groups in each of two parallel bands.
In Y7 – Y9 we have a spiral curriculum using Level Up as the main textbook resource. In Y10 – Y11 we use the Oxford GCSE textbooks as our main resource leading to the Edexcel GCSE in Y11. In Y12 – Y13 we use Heinemann Edexcel as our main textbook resource leading to AS level Mathematics and AS Further Mathematics in Y12 and A level Mathematics and A Further Mathematics in Y13.
News
Four of our brightest Sixth Form students will be taking part in the Staffordshire Mathematics Team Challenge on 7th November. Mr. Mitchell, ours latest addition to the Mathematics Department, is currently preparing the team for the event.
Celebrations
Well done to the Y12 Maths students 2010-2011 who achieved our best ever AS results. We hope that they will go on to achieve similar success in their Mathematics A level in June 2012
Mathematics teachers have been sending out ‘praise cards’ for students of all years who have produced excellent work this year. Well done to all those who have received a card so far!
Facilities
Mathematics is taught in a suite of eight rooms on the ground floor of the main teaching block. Two of the teaching rooms have an Interactive Whiteboard an all rooms are fitted with an ceiling based projector.
