The library is at the heart
of the Friary School and is here to help support the school’s mission:
High achievement through
challenge and support for every learner
We are
here to provide a service for the whole school, for learners of all ages and
abilities.
We want
to encourage a love of books and reading for learning and pleasure.
We aim to
provide a learning environment to support all students and staff.
We want
to nurture a culture of independent learning which students can take with them
into further education or their chosen career.
Opening
hours
The library is open every
school day and staffed from 9.30 – 3pm
Staffing
Mrs. Fordham is available in the
library to support students and teachers alike.
We also have a group of Y12 Library
Assistants who help out during busy periods in the library.
Resources
We hold over 7500 non fiction books
(including reference works, dictionaries and encyclopedias). We also have over 4000 fiction books ranging
from quick reads & graphic novels to contemporary novels & classics.
We have 14 networked computers which
provide access to the internet for research purposes and also to the library
catalogue, Eclipse.net.
Events
The library is host to many school wide
events such as Scholastic Book Fairs, visiting author presentations, poetry
readings and is occasionally a venue for performing arts.
