The following joint message comes from each of the three Headteachers of the Lichfield secondary schools and relates to the Year 7 Open Evenings which were due to be staged in the coming weeks:

On behalf of all three Lichfield secondary schools, we would like to share information with parents of current Year 6 students about our virtual Open Evenings this year.

The original Open Evening dates are:

The Friary School                              Tuesday 22 September 2020                       www.friaryschool.com

King Edward VI School                    Wednesday 30 September 2020                www.keslichfield.org.uk

Nether Stowe School                     Thursday 1 October 2020                              www.netherstowe.com

We are aiming to have our virtual Open Evenings live by this date but please check individual websites for details.

As we are unable to invite parents and students in to school this year, schools will aim to give parents and prospective students a flavour of what it is like to study there and the opportunities available to them. The details and relevant links will be available via school websites.

This will include virtual tours, student feedback, curriculum and departmental information and presentations from senior leaders.

Full details of the programme will be available on the individual schools’ websites shortly.

Although we will look to cover all frequently asked questions, there will be an opportunity to send the schools your individual queries where necessary.

We know that the opportunity to spend time in school talking to staff and students is really valuable. In these most unusual times, we are sure that you understand the reasons for running virtual events instead.

We will also ensure that the information remains on the website until at least the end of October after the application date for secondary school places has closed.

We are all committed to supporting your child to make a successful transition to secondary school.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “We would encoruage all parents to check out the schools websites on the set dates and to use the virtual events to learn about the schools, ask questions, and to inform your choice. Clearly, this is not an ideal situation, but reflects the times we live in. All of the schools involved are committed to doing all that is feasible to support transition in the run up to September 2021.”
